UK firms looking to attract customers using the internet should use web design to engage in search engine optimisation.
The Marketing Society has emphasised the importance of SEO in web design, comparing its role to that of a shop window attracting customers on the high street.
Marketing director for the firm, Gemma Greaves says: "The importance of using SEO effectively cannot be underestimated."
She warns not being thorough on SEO may prevent customers from finding and ultimately purchasing from a business.
However, Ms Greaves said trust is an implicit part of building relationships with online clients.
As such, businesses large and small should be mindful of not breaching that trust by misusing web design and SEO.
