There're calls for the European Commission to look into software being used to analyse file sharing in the UK and how legal it is.
It's claimed the software CView will be used by ISP Virgin Media to spot legal versus illegal traffic on its network.
Following a complaint from Privacy International the EC says it will monitor the use of the software.
Trials of the technology in the UK have now been put on hold while the EC investigates how it was tested.
Alexander Hanff from the firm, claims that using this software is in breach of current UK law. He says it's similar to software used by other ad firms, which developed technology to monitor people's web use to better target adverts.
